Mite (8U)
At the Mite level, the ice is divided into smaller areas to foster age-appropriate development. During practices, players are grouped by age and ability and rotate through multiple stations focusing on fundamental skills. Players practice together but are divided into Red (Advanced), White (Intermediate) and Blue (Beginner) teams for competitive purposes.
Ages
Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association uses January 1st as their cutoff date for age ranges. If your child is born January 1, 2017 or later, you would fall into the mite program.
When
The regular season runs from mid October through the beginning of March, with Jamborees typically starting in December.

Practices
Mites will practice approximately two times per week throughout the season, with exception of holidays or special events.
Games
WAHA Mite programs take part in Jamborees. Youth teams in the area all gather at one rink to play games. Mites have approximately 8 Jamborees throughout the regular season. They consists of 3-4 short hockey games at each event. Games for Blue and White teams are played “cross ice,” and games for the Red team(s), games are played on half-ice with goalies.
Jerseys
Jerseys are provided by the association and must be returned at the end of the season. Socks are available for purchase as well.
Extra Costs
In order for your child to play hockey, they will need to wear equipment. West Salem Hockey Association has a robust equipment rental program. If your skater does not have their own equipment, WSHA can get them started. There will be small costs including but not limited to: mouth guards, skate sharpening's, tape, etc.
