Learn To Skate

The Learn to Skate (LTS) program is designed to teach children the fundamental progression of standing to skating forward and backwards to executing turns. All LTS sessions are entirely free, open to beginning skaters of all ages, and offered weekly throughout the season. 

There will also be a “Try Hockey for Free day” at the beginning of the season, which is an introductory one-hour session to the sport.

What equipment is required to participate?

Every participant must be wearing a minimum of skates and a helmet. They are allowed to wear sweatshirts, jackets and snowpants, however, keep in mind they will warm up pretty quick so dress in layers they can remove. 

Do we need our own hockey equipment to participate?

West Salem Hockey Association has loaner equipment on a first come first serve basis. Please watch for an email regarding equipment pick up prior to starting practices. You must be registered in order for us to email you!

What if the participant has no hockey or skating experience?

That's great! We love introducing new players to skating and the sport of hockey. Your athlete will be on the ice with certified coaches and instructors who are there to help players of all abilities and show them how FUN hockey is for everyone. 

What if the participant is outside of the 3 to 9 age range?

We can accommodate participants outside of the 3 to 9 age range, just make sure to register!

Are parents allowed on the ice to assist their child?

Yes, but they are required to wear a helmet.
